Neighbors Helping Neighbors
This letter is to explain what services the Auberry Volunteer Fire Department provides for the Auberry community and surrounding areas. The area served by AVFD extends from the San Joaquin River to the U.S. Forest Service station above Prather, on Auberry Rd. to the top of Beal Fire Road. We also serve the Big Sandy Rancheria and Jose Basin Road through its entirety, and down Italian Bar Rd. including Chawanakee. We are dispatched through CAL Fire/Fresno County Fire in Fresno. We cover 32,000 acres or 49.5 sq. miles.
Our department is all hazard mitigation, meaning we respond to wildland fires, structure fires, motor vehicle accidents and fires, rescues, and any medical emergencies in our area. At times we may be called upon to provide support services to our neighboring communities or to participate in local community events. Our members receive no pay and 100% volunteer their time. AVFD donations, and fund raisers support the department.
In 2003, the CSA (Community Service Area) was established. The community voted to secure a $72.00 per residence fire assessment fee. During major wildland fires in the forest or State responsibility areas, we may receive payment to help offset our cost. Unfortunately, this never seems sufficient to cover our expenses. Therefore, in addition to emergency responses, we must maintain our own station, vehicles, and equipment. Occasionally we need a certified fire equipment mechanic.
Keep a look out for clothing and shoes donation bins in your area! By recycling unwanted clothes, shoes, and fabric, you’re helping reduce landfill waste, saving valuable resources, and funding the Auberry Volunteer Fire Department! Find a bin near you or to schedule a free home pick-up, in designated areas, by completing the form.
